Stations on the Trans-Siberian Railway

17 August 2026 · Cartographer expedition

Ride east along the longest railway line in the world, 9,289 km and eight time zones from the western terminus to the Pacific.

The five stops

Stop 1 · Russia

Moscow

Kilometre zero of the line is at Yaroslavsky station. Every distance post along the whole 9,289 km route is measured from that platform.

Stop 2 · Russia

Yekaterinburg

Kilometre 1,816 of the line, and the fourth-largest city in the country. Trains pass from Europe into Asia about 40 km west of the station.

Stop 3 · Russia

Novosibirsk

Kilometre 3,336. It went from a bridge camp to a million people in under sixty years — one of the fastest urban growths ever recorded.

Stop 4 · Russia

Ulan-Ude

Kilometre 5,642, just east of the great lake the line skirts for 200 km. It is the capital of a Buddhist republic within the federation.

Stop 5 · Russia

Vladivostok

Kilometre 9,289, the end of the line. The full journey takes six nights, and the clocks on every platform still show the capital's time.
